Israelis fire warning shots at Malaysian-owned aid ship
Following the attack, which the foundation said took place within the Palestinian security zone, the ship was forced to anchor in the Egyptian waters about one-and-a-half nautical miles from the Gazan waters.
A PGPF representative, Matthias Chang, said that a ship from Israeli naval forces circled the humanitarian ship twice and fired shots.
“No one was injured,” he was quoted in the statement.
Another activist on board, Derek Graham, said he saw the Israeli ship coming from one end and an Egyption ship coming from another end.
There was firing, he said. “Everybody is okay, no one is injured.”
The vessel left the Port of Piraeus, Greece, last Wednesday.
The ship was carrying 7.5km of UPVC plastic sewage pipes to help restore the devastated sewerage system in Gaza.
Those participating in this mission includes anti-war activists and journalists, consisting of seven Malaysians, two Irish nationals, two Indians and a Canadian.
The humanitarian initiative is sponsored by PGPF, founded by former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
