Malaysia's Anwar Ibrahim seeks to stop lawyer from acting for three parties
The Opposition Leader is asking the court to disallow counsel Datuk Zainul Rijal Abu Bakar from acting for Federal Territory Syarie chief prosecutor Shamsuddin Hussain, Islamic Religious Department director Datuk Che Mat Che Ali and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.
In his application, Anwar contended that there was contradiction or conflict of interest on Zainul Rijal’s part.
Anwar, who is PKR leader, named Zainul Rijal as the sole respondent in his application filed at the Syariah Appeal Court registry yesterday.
He filed the papers in the presence of his wife Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and lawyers Kamar Ainiah Kamaruzaman, Dorina Abdullah and Dr Mohd Rafie Mohd Shafie.
The Permatang Pauh MP is seeking costs and any other relief deemed fit.
Anwar failed in his bid at the Syariah High Court to have his former personal aide Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan, 26, charged with making false allegations. The matter is now pending appeal.
Meanwhile, former Pusrawi staff nurse Yazihan Jusoh was interviewed by Anwar’s legal team in his ongoing sodomy trial.
