Robbers splash acid on woman - #Malaysia

ALOR SETAR: A 53-year-old woman was splashed with acid during a robbery here, leaving her with burns on her face, chest and thighs.

Two men had approached Rusnani Hussin, a civil servant from Sungai Petani, and her husband at a petrol station near Kota Sarang Semut and asked for a ride to their stalled car at about 11pm on Saturday.

The couple were travelling from Sungai Petani to Alor Setar.

As they were driving along Jalan Bukit Besar, one of the man pointed a knife at the victim and tied her husband's legs and hands.

“The men dropped off her husband by the roadside and drove the car about 5km to Guar Chempedak where they stopped and splashed acid on the woman's face before running away with valuables found in the car,” he said.

He said Rusnani's husband was found by a passer-by who helped him to lodge a report while she was found by police with the car in Guar Chempedak.

It is learnt that Rusnani, a mother of five, is working at the Sungai Petani National Unity and Integrity Department.

She is now warded at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital here.

Rusnani's husband, who was met at the hospital, refused to be interviewed.

Hospital director Datuk Dr Juita Ghazalie said Rusnani was in stable condition but had to rely on oxygen support for breathing as she had inhaled acid fumes, affecting her lungs.

“Her eyes are also affected,” she said.

Kedah CID chief Asst Comm Zakaria Ahmad said the incident was an isolated case and not related to the liquid splashing attacks in Kuala Lumpur,

The liquid splasher began terrorising people in Kuala Lumpur on March 2. Since then, 11 incidents involving 24 victims have been reported.
