Car show reflects China's growing impact

The Guangzhou motor show opened to reflect China's breakneck development in car manufacturing. The sluggish economy hit sales last year with a growth of just 2.5 percent.

This year the market is predicted to grow by five percent. But sales from neighbouring Japan have been hit following the widespread protests over disputed ownership of several islands. Demand for the leading Japanese brands almost halved last month.

The anti-Japan sentiment reportedly boosted Ford's sales in China which have risen in recent months.
