Maybank opens branch in Laos

PETALING JAYA (Nov 6, 2012): Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has opened its first branch in Laos, marking the completion of the group's footprint in all the 10 Asean nations.

The branch, which is located in the main financial centre of Vientiane, offers a full range of banking services including retail and business banking, foreign exchange, remittances and treasury services.
"We believe that with our presence in Laos, we will be able to facilitate greater intra-Asean trade and investment," Maybank president and CEO Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said at the launch ceremony by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak in Vientiane yesterday.

In order to operate effectively, the banking group plans to expand and open more branches in Vientiane as well as other cities in Laos.

"Our commitment goes beyond the initial capital of LAK 100 billion.

"We are also helping to build the country's talent pool through our employment and training opportunities across the region. In short, we at Maybank are committed here in Laos PDR for the long haul," said Wahid.

Maybank's international network now covers more than 2,200 offices in 20 countries.
