Malaysia: 1 dead, 6 missing in landslide

RUSH AGAINTS TIME... Rescuers searching for survivors of the landslide at Kampung Sungai Ruil in Tanah Rata, near Cameron Highlands, last night.
CAMERON HIGHLANDS: At least one person died and three others were injured when a landslide sent tonnes of earth onto an Orang Asli settlement in Kampung Sungai Ruil in Tanah Rata, near here, yesterday. Six others were still trapped.


Three houses were believed to have been buried in the 5.50pm incident.

At press time, the identity of the victim, believed to be a female, was still unknown.

She was rescued from the rubble at 6.30pm but died en route to Hospital Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom in Tanah Rata.

Two others — Bah Anjang Besar Alang, 39, and Serry Priary Saari, 15 — were injured in the landslide and rushed to the same hospital.

They were later transferred to Hospital Raja Tuanku Bainun in Ipoh.

Rescuers pulled out another survivor, a male, from the rubble at 11.30pm.

The six still missing have been identified as Jaafar, 49; Ali Hassan, 50; Mohd Irbal, 15; Sara Builing, 35; Noramah Builing, 51; and Yusnizan Yusoff, 22.
