Kampung Baru amok motive may never be known



KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 24, 2012): Police are yet to acertain what sparked off the aggression of a 34-year-old ex-convict who went amok and held a 10-year-old girl hostage for five hours at her house at Kampung Baru on Monday.

The man who was gunned down by police after he became a threat to the safety of the victim died minutes afters being admitted to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

Dang Wangi police chief ACP Mohd Zulkarnain Ibrahim said yesterday that the man had previous records for robberies and a string of drug related offences but was not wanted by police.

He said it was unknown why the ex-convict had reacted in such manner and a psychiatrist who was summoned to the scene to coax the man into giving himself up had also revealed that the ex-convict did not appear to be mentally deranged.

"We may never know why now that he is dead but we do know that he did not have psychiatric issues." he said.
