Man in dock over python on neighbour’s doorstep

KUALA LUMPUR: A man was charged yesterday with placing a live python in front of his neighbour’s house, negligently endangering him.

Bookstore employee A.D. William Hendrix, 22, claimed trial to the charge at the magistrate’s court and was held in remand after failing to post bail of RM2,500.

Hendrix allegedly left a white gunny sack containing the 2.7m reptile in front of K.V. Rajoo’s flat in Jalan 9/118B, PPR Desa Tun Razak, Cheras, last Friday night.

Hendrix faces a maximum six months’ imprisonment, or a fine not exceeding RM2,000, or both, if found guilty of the offence under Section 289 of the Penal Code.

Deputy public prosecutor Chew Zi Xian urged the court to impose bail of RM10,000 but counsel Wan A. Fadzil Wan Omar asked for the amount to be lower as the accused only earned RM800 a month.

Magistrate Mohd Azali Ibrahim fixed Sept 9 for the next mention.
